Lead Lights are vitally important to the safety of marine vessels and their passengers. These lights provide navigation assistance to guid a vessel safely into or out of port.
TasPorts commissioned Channel Mooring Maintenance to manage the logistics of safely conducting a repair team and its mobile cherry picker out to the Beltana Lead Light for servicing and repair of this essential service.
The repair included replacement of the existing light fitting. Testing and checking of electric components and repair of the existing paint covering.
All hazards were considered and discussed prior to starting the project.
On the day the cherry picker was centrally balanced and fixed in place on our vessel. This weight balance also gave consideration to the shift of weight once the arm was extended up and outward. All of us onboard wore the required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and followed safe work practices to minimise risk of harm to people or assets.
An early morning start was made while the sea surface was at its calmest.
